NCC Announces Free 100MB Daily Data for MTN, Airtel & Glo Subscribers (2026)

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), in partnership with the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON), has rolled out a zero-rated data initiative aimed at making digital learning more affordable. From October 1, 2026, Nigerian learners on MTN, Airtel and Glo can access up to 100MB of free data every day, but only on approved educational platforms.

What the Programme Offers

Eligible users are entitled to up to 100MB of free data every day. This data is strictly limited to NCC approved educational websites and digital learning platforms. It cannot be used for social media, general browsing, streaming or messaging apps.

If you use all 100MB every day, it adds up to roughly:

  • 700MB per week
  • About 3GB per month
  • Up to 36.5GB over a full year
  • Any unused data expires at 11:59 PM each day and does not rollover

Who Can Benefit from the NCC Free Data?

The programme is mainly for students, especially those in public senior secondary schools and public tertiary institutions. However, MTN has confirmed that all its customers who visit any of the approved educational sites on the list will automatically receive the 100MB daily data on that day. Airtel and Glo are also participating.

This is not unrestricted free internet. It is a targeted educational support scheme created to reduce the cost barrier to online learning.

How to Get Free 100MB Daily Data on MTN, Airtel and Glo

No complicated registration is required on most networks. This applies to MTN and other networks as well.

  1. Just open any of the approved educational platforms.
  2. Your line will receive an automatic credit of 100MB of free data for that day.
  3. When browsing those sites, the free data is what gets used up first.
  4. Once the 100MB is exhausted , or if you leave the approved platforms, you start using your normal data.
  5. Any unused data expires at midnight.

Approved Educational Platforms for the Free Data

MTN has published a clear list of platforms currently covered:

  • Inspire – inspire.education.gov.ng
  • Ignite – ignite.education.gov.ng
  • Edurevamp – edurevamp.education.gov.ng
  • WAEC Online – waeconline.org.ng
  • WAEC e-Study – estudy.ng
  • WAECkonnect – waeckonnect.com
  • FME eLearn Platform – elearn.education.gov.ng

The NCC and Federal Ministry of Education continue to review and add additional platforms, including learning management systems, digital libraries, technical or vocational training sites. More platforms are expected to be added over time.

Important Things to Know About the Free FG 100MB Daily Data

  • The data works only on approved educational platforms.
  • It does not cover social media, YouTube (unless the specific educational content is zero rated), WhatsApp, or general internet use.
  • You cannot roll over unused data.
  • The initial focus is on students in public secondary and tertiary institutions, though broader access is already available on some networks through the listed sites.

Conclusion

The NCC and telecom operators are trying to make it easier for students to study, research, and prepare for exams without worrying about data. The free 100MB daily data sounds nice but let's be real it's just not enough. You can't do much with 100MB a day, and when it's locked to a few approved sites, it's even less useful.

Plus, a lot of students didn't even get it when they were supposed to. If the government really wants to help, they need to stop with these small data allocations and actually invest in free campus Wi-Fi and affordable internet. Otherwise, this whole thing is just a nice gesture that doesn't really change anything.

What do you think, should they increase the data or just focus on free campus Wi-Fi instead? Drop your thoughts in the comments.
